Ritual Killings in Africa-2
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

It is a common thing for people to disappear and never re-appear again with or without a trail of their wherabout. Reasonable number of lifeless, decomposing bodies are discovered in canals, dumpsites, major roads, bush paths on daily basis with some major parts of the body severed off. The victims of this act are usually the less privileged artisans, students, and other unsuspecting citizens in different cities and suburbs in Nigeria.
Escapees from different ritual camps spread across the nation have told the Nigerian masses through the mass media the number of innocent souls being slaughtered for power and money rituals which are as perpetrated by the high and mightys in our society. This is a clarion call to everyone- African and non-Africans alike to wake up and help institute a struggle to put an end to this practice in Africa, most especially Nigeria.
The sanctity of human life should be harped more than before, the struggle against human right violation and abuse should be restructured to specifically include anti-ritual killing campaigns in the region where they are most reported. The government should also be influenced to enact more realistic means of fighting the perpetrators of this heinous act so closely and frequently so that the state becomes a safer place to dwell for all and sundry.
However, the battle would be easily won if the various traditional institutions are coopted as partners in the fight -for they are the custodians of cultural practices
